Discussion of Shoreline Disposal Waste Management: Mr. Richard Dinges summarized the Manager's
Report.
Mr. Ken Foley, of Shoreline Disposal, outlined the current Shoreline contract and responded to questions regarding the Shoreline Financial Statements. Mr. Foley also discussed Shoreline employee benefits, expected rate adjustments, possible implementation of an "automated" system whereby customers would be provided with a standardized can and single stream recycling (all recyclables collected in one container). Leslie Robinson, of 171Dipsea, asked what type of solutions, such as a Monday pick-up date, are available to solve the problem of weekend rental units which have a time lapse of three days between the Sunday when their garbage is set out and the Wednesday pick-up. Mrs. Robinson stated that during this time the garbage is susceptible to wind and animals, creating a nuisance, a health hazard and jeopardizing the lagoon. Mr. Foley stated that any change in pick-up dates would affect another area of West Marin and would be unlikely. Mr. Foley suggested that one option would be for those rental units to pay for a provided "walk-in" service where the collectors would enter the enclosure to pick up, eliminating the need to put the garbage curbside. Alternatively, a bin could be stationed in Seadrift for renters to dispose of their garbage. Richard Kamieniecki, of the Seadrift Association, stated that the problem is concentrated primarily on Dipsea Road, and another possible solution could be to instigate mandatory pick-up through the rental agencies.
